Has anyone ever had a rooster kill a hen?? I think thats what happened:((( It happened to my favorite hen
On Monday morning she was running around for scratch like normal and then a few hours later my EE roo was on top of her getting a bit rough,...I....immediately smacked him off(almost twisted his neck on the spot) and she could barely move. I put him in a cage and her in the nesting box to rest. Eventually a few hours later she came out but was slow when walking and would stand still alot. When I got home later that night(after slaughtering 5 roosters I had been saving-including this EE which I originally was not planning) she was dead:( Im glad I had already slaughtered him that day because I dont know what I would have done if he was still alive. Dont mean to sound cruel.

I feel so bad because I had given him to my aunt and he was rough with her hens and then I free ranged him with mine and this happened. i should not have done that.

Here is my poor hen RIP

And heres the EE big boy

I'm not sure whether it's possible for rooster to break a hens back or not???? Maybe if it was a 9 lb roo jumping on a tiny d'uccle hen or something, but your hen looks standard sized. It's possible she may have had another issue, and this was coincidence...
I can't deal with a rough rooster though - it just goes through me when they're rough with hens. I love the roo I have now because he is courteous and pretty gentle as roos go - if he is declined, he lets it go and moves on to someone more cooperative.
