Hi all,
My favorite hen , Chicklet who is a Barred Rock just over 1 yr old. She was chased by a dog last week and I thought she was ok but over last few days she has been isolating herself and her left wing is protruding . Very pronounced compared to right wing. It's like a bump high up . When looking at her from behind left wing has big bump and right is normal She's holding wing tight to her. I'm not sure if it's broken or not. Can't get her to vet till Mon. And my vets do not do Chics but will have a look. Today she wouldnt come out of the coop. Seemed exhausted.. Is eating and drinking and laid an egg today, I think. She was in nest box quite awhile. My 3 girls free range on horse farm all day, they help us do chores !! Chicklet is the alpha hen and now my other two are picking on her. I'm thinking I should separate her, I'll bring her home with me she's my best buddy. What else can I do and do you think her wing is broken. How do I tell ?
One more thing, mt 3 girls have never picked on one another they are great friends. I say Chicklet is the alpha because they all follow her lead she's always the one to come when called to go in at night and chooses the best spots to scratch, dust bathe etc. 2weeks ago I went to let them out in am and there was a rooster in their run. I don't have a roo. He spilt when he saw me but came back and has been living here since. He's really very nice to the hens and us and they love him. So I allowed him to stay. But could his prescience. Be why my other girls are picking on her? She seems to be the Roos favorite to breed but he doesn't seem to be overly aggressive with hens. I'm so worried about her. This is my first flick ad first injury. Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks Maura

Did the dog make contact with her? Did she try to squeeze through anything to get away from the dog? Have you checked her wing to see if there's an abscess or other physical abrasion to the wing? Will she let you gently move the wing to check range of motion?
Wishing you and Chicklet the best of luck!

I'm not sure dog made contact but she was stuck in a small horse paddock with diamond mesh fence she probably squeezed under fence. Did try to see what range of motion she had but was conservative because I had no one to help and she seemed so stressed I didn't want to stress her more. Funny she pecked me when I manipulated the good wing. Do you think I should isolate her?
