I just had a friend call about a bloody looking sack on his young hen. He later poked it and decided that it is a prolapse. Is this possible and is there anything you can do for her?
A prolapse is possible. I would wash the area gently with warm water and pat dry. The best way to treat a prolapse is to use Preperation H. It will soothe the area and help with tissue inflammation. If washing at this time of night is not a good option then just use the Prep H. With a gloved finger apply it to the affected area and after putting a little more on your finger push the prolapse back in. If you don't have a plastic glove a sandwich bag protecting your finger will do.
Keep her inside tonight so she can rest and hopefully heal. If you put her back with the flock they will poke and peck at the prolapse and can kill her.
