I lost a hen last year after she got egg bound, i think my best brown hen may be egg bound, she hasn't laid for a while, noticed other night she wasn't perched up with her sisters. I have a video and a picture of her to show you guys. thanks for any advice and help again. She also doesn't seem to be able to scratch the grass like the others and when she reaches down her tail comes down.

I thought id get some help with this. Guess ill just have to hope for the best and see if she recovers.

Bump!......

I have been having a similiar problem with my smaller hen, every once in awhile she gets listless and doesnt move around much, and has a hard time passing an egg, however she hasnt been bound ...yet.

The only thing I might sugest is to maybe gently pick her up and feel her butt, and see if it is hard or if you can see an egg. My mom used to rub oil over her parrots vent when it would be egg bound, for better pushing, but a chicken i would imagine is something totally different. I hope someone else will chime in on this for you.

and i just watched the video, and i feel sorry for her.

Thanks fro the reply, shes limping real bad on one side now. i checked her over, legs seems fine and not broken or anything. Will check her tummy see if its hard and have a look at the vent. This is my best hen i really dont wanna lose her.

wow its been 10 days since you asked us for help!! She isnt any better and now limping?? you cant feel an egg or anything? how old is she? Did you check her for bubblefoot? lice, mites, cocci?

she eats well, drinks, get sin and out of the coop ok, but im begining to think somethign wrong with her leg.

shes a couple years old at least. I rescue them so not exactly sure of age. this happend all of a sudden, one eavning she didnt appear to be able to see and was stumbling around in the coop, then a few days later this funny leg and walk.

she sits down to rest the one side like in this picture.

Just made a video to try and show how shes walking. Seems to have alot of poo on her rear end as shes just sitting down ALL day. After this i picked her up and put her in the coop.

Also notice some bubbling of the eye when i go in a little closer.
