Hello my fine people,

I haven't been around here much, been very busy lately. Tonight, my female turkey lady woman hen is laying on the ground in the coop, wimpering. She layed her first egg of the season yesterday. Today, she seems to be rather moody, and is now acting strange in the coop. She has been laying on the straw for a couple of hours (wimpering is the only way I know how to describe it).

I am just concerned, and would appreciate your guys input very much on if I should do anything for her, or just leave her alone...?

Thank you guys!

Don

If it was mine, I would leave her alone. If you are concerned about her being egg bound. Do a search for egg bound in the Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures forum. The diagnosis and treatment is the same no matter what type of poultry it is.

Thank-you so much for your advice and quick response. I will certainly leave her alone for a good while.

It is unusual for her to be laying at night, normally she is a morning/afternoon girl.

I do feel that now that I have quite the flock... (I have 18 eggs in the refrigerator now... LOL) I should probably invest in these:

One question I have, I noticed that on one of the threads here, one of the members said that they give their hen amoxicillin... is that in tablet form?

Just trying to read and prepare for the future...

Also check her for mating injuries especially below the wings and in front of her legs.
Yes, we have a male tom and she had previous injury in the lower wing and thigh area... to the extent that she was bleeding. I do not believe that she has successfully mated at this time.

I found her injuries the day before yesterday...

Capsules, and the dose is huge, it's 57 mg per pound of bodyweight for 7 to 10 days.
