The bulb is your average screw-in light bulb, a white/yellow light and about 70W, in a desk lamp which attaches to the edge of the bird cage.
The brooder is in... I'm not sure what the room's called. Basically the middle section of the house is a huge room, maybe 6m by 8m, and a quarter of it has been sectioned off (stone wall) to become the kitchen/dining area. The rest of the room has a piano in one corner, two desks and computers in the largest section, and then there's an area next to a large window facing to the back yard where the incubator and brooders are.
But it's not the kitchen - I don't feel it's safe to have living (pooping) creatures so close to where food's being prepared - so no worry about microwave toxic stuff! We don't have TV dinners anyway.
Anyway all the other chicks seem fine for now, no excessive peeping or lethargic-ness or anything.
