Are you sure it isn't just the loud chirping that they do when they are alone or scared? If I seperate one of my chicks it will chirp really loud till it finds its friends... could it be that kind of chirp?

I had a chick that started crowing at about 15 days old. When I mentioned it in this thread, at least two other people mentioned extremely young chicks crowing for them, so it happens. I wish all the boys let you know their gender that young.

It is not a distress cheep. I will try to see if I can record it, and i'll give you an update. It sounds NOTHING like a rooster crow, but it also is not normal "chick talk" and only these two chicks are doing it..

Yes, I've had it happen more than once. First time, a five day old Ameraucana crowed (sounded like buh-REEEEET). And second time, a seven day old Brahma crowed. Then the third time a seven day old Orpington crowed in the brooder. All three were male.

Like I said, this sounds NOTHING like a crow but I don't know why these two are doing it, and they both sound the same. My mic to my computer is across the room, so during the entire clip all the chicks are peeping, just too quite to hear except one loud one. About 17 seconds in the chick starts bellowing this noise.. compared to everyone cheeping that you can't hear, it's really loud! After they make this noise, they go back to eating, running around, or whatever they were doing before, like nothing happened.

Nope, doesn't sound like a crow....but it doesn't sound like a normal peep a chick would do. Only 2 are doing it? Hmm.....well I got nothing.

But that's not normal chick talk, at least I havn't heard mine do that.
