I have a rooster that has a black patch on his wattle. Today, I noticed it's starting to split a bit. Could someone confirm? I'm surprised because it's not cold here in southern Japan but we have had some minus 2-3C nights lately.

And any insights to what can be done and what would happen if it's not treated. This rooster is pretty aggressive and won't be handled so I have no idea what to do if medication needs to be applied. Thanks!

It will keep drying up and eventually slough off. Leave it alone.

I had a rooster with frostbite on his wattles. It took a couple of months, but the damaged tissue dried up and eventually fell off.

If the lower half of the wattle falls off, will it grow back?

Thanks for the replies. A little less concerned now.

I usually do not treat frostbite in wattles or combs. Since he is aggressive, I would leave it alone to heal in a month or so.
I found out for frostbite to use Neosporin antibiotic Not the one with pain relief and here's a picture of the spray so you don't have to get to close to rooster.

Not advisable, if it's threatening to freeze again for not put anything or touch it while it's healing.

X2. Vaseline, Neosporin, creams, and ointments will also freeze, so when temps are below freezing do not put anything on it. I leave it alone.

X3 I would just leave the wattle alone. A portion will dry up and fall off. It will not grow back, but he will be o.k.
