Possible Gout

Mycoplasma synovitis may not cause the common symptoms that MG does. It is more of a joint infection, although it could cause mild respiratory symptoms.
Ok, thanks! Good to know. Will call the vet tomorrow. Never seen anything like it in all my years of chickening.

Has the swollen ankle looked like that “for years” since the limp as you say? If so, I would think that could have been an older fracture or bad sprain.
I haven't had her long. She's a rescue. I have no idea at all what her age is. The swelling just started a few weeks ago and she's not limping at all. And it's both ankles. The pic I posted doesn't show it well. But maybe from jumping from a high roost?

Hi. I have a rescued Speckled Sussex hen named Cracker Jack whose ankles are quite swollen. I took her in two years ago. I don't know her age, but she no like anger lays very often. The gal I got her from didn't know anything about chickens. She was a house chicken who was fed scraps and bird seed, so malnutrition is definitely likely. I see no other symptoms that would indicate MS, and the bottoms of her feet are healthy. Her feet themselves are not swollen - just her ankles - and her toes turn out a bit (I need to trim her talons, I think). She doesn't even limp. None of my others are showing any swelling or other symptoms.

Thoughts?

Hi did you ever find out what was wrong with your hen? I’m dealing with the same thing on a 7 month old hen. No injuries or bumble foot on her feet. She was eating layer feed which I should have not allowed because she wasn’t laying yet so she’s isolated on a chick feed and I’m trying the tart cherry method I am not seeing any signs of improvement.
