Possible home needed for 15 week old Buff Orpington - New York

Hi all,

I think I may have a rooster in the midst.... Unfortunately I am not allowed to have one!

So, if she turns out to be a he.... I'll need to find him a home quickly!

Can't have the noise while I wait to find him a home so I thought I would post this now to see if I can find a "Possible" home and have it waiting until we hear him crow to be sure.

If it turns out to be a girl we definately want to keep her!

He (she) is 15 1/2 weeks old. Born 4/23/07.

Fonda is near Albany right?

How many chickens do you have? Do you have other Orpingtons?

I will definately be in touch at the first sign of crowing!!

Will need to get him out fast.

I am still hoping that she is just a developed girl!

crossing fingers. It will be a sad day here at my house if he crows.

I am about 45 mins from fonda.

I have 2 hens now and some chicks on the way (should be here i about 15-30 mins, lol) That has a buff orp girl in it.

What ever it is, its very pretty, and theres a chance it could be a girl, because Roos usually crow by now I think..

Thanks for writing My Pet Chicken! Our hatchery only includes an "extra" of the same sex and breed that you've already ordered, so it wouldn't be a rooster on purpose unless you'd already ordered one!

That said, sexing is never 100% accurate (it's an art, not a science), so it's perfectly possible that you did end up with a male despite our best efforts.

You're correct that redder, larger combs and wattles are a sign of being a rooster. You can't be 100% sure until you hear that first full-throttled crow, though...

Hi, I had seen your original post and had mentioned that"he" looks just like my hens, so I am attaching pictures of one of my two buffs. This is my first time uplading from photobucket so bear with me!

They're not the best pics of her comb but you can get an idea that she -and my reds- for that matter have a large comb like yours and the tail feathers are similar. Oh, and they are definatley hens!!!
