Hello everyone,

I just decided to get some backyard chickens! I built a coop, and got 9 eggs from a homestead friend of mine. My friend lent me an incubator, but it didn’t have a working thermometer. I added a good probe thermometer but had it to close to the heating element. These eggs sat at 89 degrees for 7 days before I noticed my mistake. I fixed the problem, and placed it right next to the eggs. They have been sitting at 99.5 to 100.5 for 6 days now but I am nervous it might have been too late or the 90 degree stint hurt the possibilities a successful hatch.

From what I read it would have been ideal for the eggs to be incubated within 7 days of being laid. Being that they weren’t what are my chances? I can get more eggs asap, but my 4 year old son is sold on these he named them, and I don’t want to break his little heart. I have candled them yesterday, but they look the same.

Thank you in advance for any replies!

Thanks.

I decided to stick it out and see if anything happened with these eggs, and as predicted. Nothing happened :he. Got a new batch of eggs, and I plan on not messing this one up!

I'm sorry. I was going to say don't beat yourself up too much. We all have to learn. I didn't kbow about calibrating a hygrometer, thought because mine was digital it would be more accurate. Not even close.

Happy hatching. :jumpy Hope to see pics soon

The waiting is killing me, i got everything ready for them. I feel how my wife was when she was getting closer to birthing our kids. She started nesting getting everything ready, thats my current situation; I'm a dude though :lau

Its ok to feel that way. If you feel your manliness is questioned, you can always wirk on your car and get all greasy..:lau
Im teasing. Good luck with your hatch. :thumbsup :jumpy
