Just 3-2 days ago, my 4 month old Polish cockerell's eye became slightly swollen and runny. It was only slightly foamy. After a while, his eye was no longer foamy, but he has had it closed lately. It is very scabby. Just today he closed his eye up completely (as if he lost his eye). I will be posting pics soon. Does he have MG? He also slept in the coop with the rest of the flock for the first time just before his eye began to hurt. Could he just have gotten pecked in the eye?
I have him seperated (if it is something like MG or CRD). If it is MG, could the rest of the flock get it? He also broke his wing just last night when he was seperated from the flock. I'm going to treat that very soon.

I didn't take any pictures of his eye before it finally closed up, sorry.

It could be MG, it sounds like it could be infected aswell. If MG it really couldnt be treated as far as im concerned (i havent had MG and heared this from only one person, but I beileve it can transmit threw offspring, best of luck.

Does the scab on his comb look like fowl pox? Are there other scabs on him or others? Take a clean warm wet washcloth and place it over his eye while you sit and hold him in a towel for a few minutes, to soften the crusty drainage. Clean the skin off, and put a dab of either Terramycin or plain Neosporin ointment into the eye twice a day. No need to separate him, since if he has been exposed to MG, the others have already been exposed as well. It may be MG, a peck wound, or feathers or a foreign body in his eye. Testing through your state vet could tell if you contact them. MG is common in some backyard flocks, and also can be a secondary infection of fowl pox. In case you think it might be fowl pox, here is a link that has a lot of pictures of it:

To answer your first question, no I don't think so. He has been picked on by the bigger hens a lot. Thanks for the info.

There is no treatment required for fowl pox. It is a limited virus spread by mosquitoes in hot weather. It will go away in about 3 weeks, but it can go through the flock slowly. Do not disturb scabs. I would clean the eye with saline eye wash twice a day and use the Terramycin or plain Neosporin ointment in the eye.

Yep. That sounds like great advice, you cant really treat it other then being calm and isolate that chicken.
