I have 12 Silkies. One of them, just started acting mopey and with closer inspection, I was seeing very tiny white bugs on her face and head. I looked this up in my chicken health book, but with no pictures... or a real description of what they look like, I am at a loss. I think its some sort of a mite... I do not think its lice, from what I read.

SO I've been researching on how to treat my little friends. Has anyone used the Diatomaceous Earth?? and is that what you recommend in using??? HELP!

I believe diatomaceous earth helps, but i have also heard that putting wood ash in their feathers and in their run (to dustbath in) and cleaning their coop will help. I wish you the best of luck

Tiny white bugs are about the color of lice. Put some sevin dust on your fingers and gently rub it in on your silkie. Avoid eyes/nostrils. Repeat again in 7-10 days. Do the same thing with their coop dusting it well. Inspect the other 11 for lice as well and treat accordingly.
