possible prolapse. please help

Chicken puss is a hard, cheesy substance (think ricotta), as opposed to mammal puss that is runny and liquid.

You're doing great. Just be sure to clean her as thoroughly as possible as soon as you can to prevent an infection from spreading. <3

And keep plucking out those maggots!

The same thing happened to one of my hens. You want to isolate her and clean her in some warm water. Keep her isolated until all the maggots have gone and she is looking a lot better. You will want to watch her because when she lays eggs in the future they might get stuck. Good luck with her and keep doing what you're doing!

When i cleaned her up again last night and this morning i didn't find any maggots at all. I don't know if that's good or bad. I flushed out her vent real good and none came out. She had more puss form so i picked that off and iodined her. today she has diarrhea and I've been checking her poo for signs of magggots but so far haven't seen any. My friend doesn't hander her girls like i do mine so she's afraid of me. I gave her a boiled egg and I'll check to see if she ate it in a bit. My fingers are crossed she'll be ok.

Good Luck.

Keep on keepin' on until her wound is fully healed.

Just make sure that all the maggots are gone... If there are fly eggs left, they may still hatch. Just keep it clean and dry. :)

You have done a great job for your friend's girl.

She died last night! I cleaned her up last night after work and she seemed a bit lethargic but i didn't worry about it. There was some puss but no maggots. This morning i went to clean her again and found her dead :( my guess is that the maggots got in there so deep i wasn't seeing them. I feel awful :(

I am so very sorry to hear of her passing.

I imagine the infection became systemic and there really wasn't anything you could have done other than make her comfortable and do your best to treat what you could.

You hold no blame in this. You did all you could.

I'm so, so sorry. There really must have been nothing you could do. Don't hold it against yourself, you did an amazing job trying to help her.
