When I candle one of the eggs today, I didn't see any movement inside the egg. So, I cracked the part on the air cell of the egg, to see if the fully developed chick is still alive. It pipped internally, but it is no longer moving. I am sure, that it is moving yesterday, when I candled it. However, when I went back to the nest, the mother hen is outside of the nest along with her less than 1 day old chick, and incubating another chicken's egg, who laid a new egg that is very close to her nest. Definitely, the egg, didn't receive ideal temperature for hatching eggs, for no more than 24 hours. I think 9 to15 hours is a better estimate. I doubt, that it died, because it is left in an environment, where temperature is between 75 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit. My chicken's less than 2 day old chicken embryo can survive in that temperature for about 11 hours for 2 consecutive days. I don't think that it drowned either, since mother hen, knows how to control humidity, and the other chick successfully hatched today.

What have you done? Did you get it and help it out? Sylvia
After I cracked the shell that is located where the air sac is, it is no longer moving. I didn't try to peel off the inner membrane, before it is no longer moving. I think it died during the transition stage, or it might be suffocated because I candled it several times. I doubt it died of suffocation, because I touched it as many times as the other egg(the egg that contains the chick that hatched), and I washed my hands with soup and water before I touch it.

Sometimes, they just aren't meant to make it. Next time, however, leave them alone. It's true that the hen does an excellent job of controlling temperature and humidity, but that's only if she's left undisturbed on her nest. You lifting her and messing with the eggs could very well be what caused its demise. Or, perhaps it was just weak and was never meant to be. Who knows.

Good luck with the chick that did hatch!

We do like pics here, especially fluffy, adorable chick pics ;)
