Hey! I need some help... I currently am raising some baby chicks and baby ducks, 2 months old. Their in my garage and I noticed little spider like things running around. I just thought they were baby spiders and when I looked more closely I saw that they were red and moving really fast. Like swarms. Well I looked on the internet and it sounded like red mites because there was clear and red colored mites running around. I bought YoTex GardStar Garden and Poultry Dust and powdered the mess out of them. I covered the floor, the two container rims the the ducks and the chickens are in. I covered under the boxes (toats) and all around. I didn't put any on the birds yet because I'm not sure how much needs to be on them. So here are my questions:

How much needs to be on the birds?
Can my ducklings even get them?
Will that powder kill them?
How long will it take to kill them?
Are they even red mites?
Can my other animals (dogs and cats) get infested if I put the shaving and containers out side?

1 red mite usually lives in housing and sucks the roosting birds blood at night.
2 I'm not sure, but I would assume so
3 yes but it will need to be repeated treatments every few days depending on infestation
4 you need to be persistent and patient with the treatment powder
5 they sound like it, but I might be wrong
6 I don't think so, but I'm not sure

Thanks for the help. I definitely need to know about if they can get on dogs. I red they usually feed at night but I can't think of anything else that they could be.
