We purchased 10 Asian Black Pullets from Hoover’s Hatchery. Two are developing differently than the rest. One has very short tail feathers, bare spots on both shoulders, and is not feathering as quickly as the others. The second one is developing a barred pattern with white rather than all black. Are these indicators that we may have two roosters? They’re supposed to be sexed pullets but I know it’s not one hundred percent accurate. The top photo shows the one in question on my hand compared to two others. They’re almost three weeks old. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Did you get extras? That barred one isn't an asian black so they might've thrown it in as an extra to keep the other chicks warm. If that's the case, it's probably a cockerel but it's too soon to be sure. As for the slow to feather one, that happens. I haven't personally seen feathering rates indicate sex.

Hey guys! I have a similar question. I purchased 11 olive eggers and 1 is much larger and I'm wondering if it could be a roo? Thanks for any info!:)

Good Morning Jami!
Possible. What age are the olive Eggers? It tends to be a guessing game before 6 weeks. You say this one is larger. How does he act? Look for wattle and comb development. Cockerels can have a more upright stance. This one is standing like a pullet.

I am no expert and will guess pullet. If younger than 6 weeks, ask again in 6 weeks.
