We recently crossed our barred rock (sire)/buff Brahma cross rooster with a golden cuckoo maran… the two chicks look so different. We suspect the black and white one will be a roo and the other a hen. What do y’all think? Here’s a pic of the chicks with grandma… they’re only 4 weeks old so we’re aware it may be to early to tell.

Yes and no.
The hen will only pass her single copy of barring on to her son.
The rooster, who has just one as well, will pass it to 50% of his offspring regardless of gender.
So yes and no.
Males will ALWAYS be barred with this cross but you’ll get barred and nonbarred females.
You’re correct about genders. The barred chick is male and the nonbarred chick is a female.
