I was given two chickens, I have no idea of their history. Both have been fine for the last few months.

In the last few days Buffy (buff colored chicken) has had poop on her bottom and is lethargic.
I have no idea what to do with a sick chicken, can anyone help?

do you have any idea how old they are
I would clean the poop off the one, could be worms or mites/lice I would check under the wings and around the vent for bugs.

Thank you, that is my plan so far. I will clean her off and check her.

Any advice on how to handle cleaning her? I think a warm dish of water and washcloths would be the best idea unless anyone has any better ideas?

Just use warm water to loosen and clean their bottoms, then use an old towel or hair dryer set on low to dry them. Then, while your drying them, visually inspect them for lice or mites. You can see lice crawling around, mites will look like pepper.

I took a bucket of warm water out to the coop and a bunch of towels, I sat with her and held warm towels to her to loosen and clean her up.
She was fine with it and I got her pretty well clean.
I inspected her underside and nothing looked inflamed or red and I didn't see anything that might resemble a creepy crawly.
She did drink while I was out there so I am hoping that is a good sign.

I am not sure how healthy she is or how old she is, her feet don't seem as solid as my other chickens feet do.
The people I got her from fed her crap as far as I know because they said their chickens like everything except for cake frosting

.... poor chicken.
Since I have had them I have only given them organic feed and kitchen scraps as well as letting them out to forage in the back yard.

I got her settled in her nesting area and she seemed pretty happy, I'm not sure what else to do.
I'll check her again in the morning.
