Hello all, I am a relatively new duck owner, and my hen just hatched her first nest. (Yay!) The ducklings are about three days old today, and when I was out there watching them, I saw my hen Aspen (their mother) accidentally step on one of the babies.
Now that baby is walking with a limp, one foot curled up underneath him and hobbling along after the others. I've been trying to quickly look at forums and things on here, but I thought it'd be easier just to ask for some help.
I checked his little leg and it doesn't appear to be broken, although I haven't checked the hip really yet. It's hard to search without his mama getting angry at me...but I'm thinking it could just have been sprained.
Is the best course to let him be and see if it heals on its own? Or do I need to do something/give him something to help?
It's my only magpie out of the group and I'm upset that he's hurt.
And of course I'll be watching his leg for any infections/swelling/other signs.
Thank you all!
