Possible to have an addiction without the substance?

Not having seen chickens at any of the cemeteries in my area leads me to believe that death must be the only cure for chickenitis. A year and a half ago I thought it would be nice to get 3 or 4 laying hens. I now have 12 different breeds, 2 coops (one is undergoing an addition project), 1 tractor, 7 cages, 2 incubators, & 2 brooders. Come to think of it, with my current egg production I have 3 or 4 laying hens.

Some days I think I don't have a problem and everything is under control. I am happy with the number of chickens I have....Then I come back here to BYC and I am drawn to any post with pics....Its like being on a diet and working in a doughnut shop. If you don't allow yourself permission to give in to temptation a little here and there you will find yourself sneaking out with a few dozen all at once. So you may as well give in and enjoy it.

the addiction is uncurable!!! my hubby says it is unhealthy as well considering i wake up and log into BYC even before the coffee pot is done dripping (around 7-8am) and only log off if i need to make a phone call. if i could talk while app was running i wouldn't log off then...lol. and i am still on BYC most nights until sometimes 2-3am. tell me thats not an addiction...lol i just can't help it tho. i love chickens and reading and on here there is never ending threads and posts...lol
