I took my 5 year old hen to the vet today. He said it was likely water belly. She got an ultrasound but I won't get the results until tomorrow. I know it is not curable but is it treatable? On some threads, they mention vitamin c and oregano oil? Will this work? What about dietary changes?
The vet said draining it isn't a good idea because of the potential to introduce bacteria and get an infection.

She did lose quite a bit of weight because of this. I have been giving her supplemental feedings and she seems to be gaining weight. Also, she has become very energetic with the weight gain. However, I have noticed the occasionally watery poo the last two days with a light green ting. This is worrying me. I just had to put down an old hen last month and don't want to lose another one.

Thank you

Unfortunately, there's no treats, only draining which will make her more comfortable but if your vet doesn't think it will help then there's nothing else.

Depends on cause but most causes are not treatable (especially with apple cider vinegar and oregano!). Make her comfortable and enjoy her while you can.
Thank you

I was just spit balling. I was hoping the vet could drain some of the fluid to give her more time or at least a better quality of life for a little while.
