I have a 6 month old starlight chicken who has been mouth breathing and stretching her neck for about 2 days. It is impossible to find a vet that will see her, sadly. Can I give her my sons oral amoxicillin-clavulanate 600 mg/42.9 mg per 5 ml for a possible upper respiratory infection? I also dewormed her in case it is the rare gape worm infection. I hate to lose her without trying

No I would not give the amoxicillin yet. The dosage is too small. Welcome to BYC. Can you feel her crop, the sack in her right upper chest, and tell us if it is empty and flat, full, puffy firm or doughy? Can you feel it first thing in the morning after she has fasted overnight? A full or impacted crop may cause some crop adjustment or moving the neck around, and it can be normal unless they repeatedly do it.

It felt empty, she is eating and drinking too

Crops normally feel like there is something in there during the day when they are eating and drinking. In early morning, the normal crop should feel empty. Is she having any head shaking, swallowing mucus inside her beak, or having watery bubbly eye in either eye? Sneezing or nasal drainage can be other signs of a respiratory disease. Amoxicillin is not very effective with respiratory diseases in chickens. MG does not have a cell wall, and Tylosin, Denagard, oxytetracycline or some other may be better. Coryza needs a sulfa antibiotic. Viruses, such as infectious bronchitis do not respond to most antibiotics. Amoxicillin works better for wound infections or reproductive infections.

The only thing besides the mouth breathing constantly and neck stretching is she just seems very mellow and keeps to herself. I've isolated her now.
