Possibly a Quitter Egg?

I have three eggs incubating - two still seem to be going strong...lots of veining, movement within the egg. One seems to have quit. The embryo is no longer moving. I left it in and am going to check it again, but I don't have my hopes up. Actually, I'm hoping it's asleep. LOL. Somebody please tell me it was asleep.

You won't see movement every time you candle. If you still see nice looking vessels, don't toss it.

Just recandled a minute ago - no veins in that "still" egg. No movement of the embryo either. Should I keep it for another day or two to be sure, or should I just go ahead and toss it? Of the 14 eggs I had, I have only 2.5 remaining (the half is the quitter). In the two good eggs, the keets are growing fast - and are regular wiggle-worms. (Knock on wood) Hatch date is 6/15. I set the eggs on 5/19.

On a happier note, the three eggs that I collected from my female when she was incarcerated for three days appear to have veining developing. I set them in the incubator on 6/1. Is that my imagination or is that visible on day 4?

A candling question: I have what seems to be a very powerful LED flashlight (it was expensive - - $40.00!) that has 181 lumens. Is that too bright for the embryos? It seems as though I can see a ton going on in the eggs very early, because of the 12 eggs I collected from the nest the day before yesterday, I see a dark spot in the yolk. Could that be the blastoderm, is it my wishful thinking, or is it the 181 lumens and $40.00 doing what it should?

Inquiring (and worried) minds wanna know.

Good question my friend! I just use a small mini-mag light. How is the air sac looking? I would leave it in for a few days before checking it again. I had no explosions in my incubator and some were pretty rank. I broke all of them open after the hatching time had passed and that is how I could tell what had developed and to what degree.I rarely saw much movement in those four that were 3/4 developed. And I was looking and looking for movement. Don't give up the ghost on it as it may just be working on getting something new and needs to be still or your timing is impeccable and you catch it asleep every time.

Just don't panic okay?

If it is a quitter, I'll know for sure sooner rather than later. I just wish I had three keets to look forward to, but I'm not holding my breath.
