Possibly a sick chick!

My son is in town and he is picking up some Corid for me...He's not usually there, so hopefully there is hope! I gave him some homemade electrolytes, not to much, I will give him some more in a little bit. He's currently snuggled in my lap under a towel!

Here is the electrolyte recipe that I used.

Homemade Electrolyte Recipe for Chicks
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons molasses OR 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon potassium chloride* (optional)

I would hold off on the Corid for now, and use the electrolytes and water for now. If that doesn’t help you can use the Corid, but it will negate the coccidiosis vaccine.
Thank you! I'm glad that I asked! I hope the recipe for electrolytes is a good one. I'm afraid to give him to much of it! I'm waiting for my son to get home with some from the feed store. I had someone suggest that it could also be sour crop and that I should give him some yogurt. I figure it can't hurt!

So, he finally pooped! I looked through it and don't see any worms! Here is a picture! I wonder if he got a strain of Cocci not covered in his vaccine from the grass clumps we've been giving them... 😪

I just went out and checked on my other chicks and one of them had pooped in the dish I bring their mash in! It looks like cecal poop! Here's a picture though! Thank you so much for your help! On a good note, he's crying for his flock and I saw him preening...so maybe the electrolytes are helping...he's starting to act more alert!

Here is a picture of him from an hour ago and the other is from now! He does seem to be fluffed out...what does that mean! At least he is up and walking around a bit more, but I still don't think he's eating or drinking! Thank you!

I think I would start the Corid. There is a lot of mucus around the cecal poops. The chick looks very weak. You can give the undiluted Corid 0.1 ml per pound orally with a dropper or ayringe twice a day for a few days, in addition to the treated water. Dosage of that is back in post 5.

Thank you! He has gone several more times and it has been firmer, just dark brown! He weighs just a little over 10 oz., should I try and give less than the 0.1 ml?
