Possibly egg bound hen?

Update: My hen hasn't passed her egg yet. She ate and drank for about 10-13 minutes. Then she went into her nest box again to try and lay her egg. I'm about to go out and check on her to see if she laid it.

We are going to try and get the Calcium pills tonight or tomorrow morning, and see if those help at all. How often do I give her the calcium pills? Just when she's egg bound? Also, do you think they will help with her "no shell" problems too?

If she's sitting in a nesting box, give her the calcium tonight. If you wait until tomorrow, try putting her in a nice quiet place so she can work on nothing but the egg.

You should also get some gloves, KY Jelly and very gently check her vent.

Too much calcium can cause gout, so I haven't done it more than every other day until for a few days and it seems to have fixed several of mine, including my turkeys that were laying noting but soft-shelled eggs.

We gave her the calcium pill tonight in some yogurt. She hated the syringe, but she loved the treat. Once she finished the yogurt with the calcium in it, we gave her some watered down yogurt and she drank almost all of that. She also pooped twice when we were giving her the yogurt and calcium. It wasn't liquid, and it wasn't solid. It was kind of moist. It's reassuring to know that she isn't completely plugged up.

We gave her the Calcium about 2 hours and 15 minutes ago. She has laid these types of eggs overnight before, so I'm hoping she is able to do the same tonight. I tried to get her to stay in the nest box, but that wasn't where she wanted to be.

I guess all we can do now is hope this helps her to get the egg out of her system.

Sorry I've been really busy and forgot to update. She is doing really well! We kept her in the cage in our garage for 4 days (3 nights). She was up and moving and seemed like she wanted out yesterday, so I put her back into the coop. She seemed very happy to be back in there. She even spent most of the afternoon outside with the other chickens. We think she might have even laid an egg last night! It's hard to tell for sure because we have 3 other hens who lay an egg the same color as hers.

I think the 4 days of rest in the cage really helped her. I think the calcium pills have helped too. She's still not eating and drinking much on her own. She only eats scrambled eggs and drinks water mixed with yogurt right now. At leasts she's eating and drinking something.
