Possibly eggbound hen? Help!

The easiest way would be to post a new thread here with a title such as “Frostbite in both feet-the story of my hen”
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures.10/create-thread
And then copy and paste post 55, or copy and paste the thread listing post 55. Or you could do it the longer way by giving a brief description of what happened and your treatment and repost your pictures.

Ok, I will make a new post with some more details. I think I posted here for help when it happened but it was my first time using the forum so I’m not sure if I posted or just looked for advise from others posts.

I’ve noticed the last 2 days that she is retaining fluid in her neck (pictures below). She’s acting much more lively these days and is still on amox and nutri drench. Her crop is draining every night. Her poops are much more solid now, still dark green/brown and white, no egg type matter anymore. Her comb is still folded but the color is a lot better. She’s only 4 - but could this be aging or she has cancer maybe? She’s eating more and drinking fine, but she’s still so so thin. I’m still not sure what was initially wrong with her :(

Could the fluid in her neck be air that sh has swallowed? I am not sure what would cause fluid in her neck, unless it is some air sac issue. I will tag @casportpony to see if she would know what might be causing it.

I just wanted to update anyone following - my hen passed away last night. Last week she started to really come around - her energy was good, she was eating layer pellets again, making noise, walking all over, tail raising and not puffy anymore. This is after treating her with Corid for possible coccidiosis and Amox for possible EYP. Her poops were hardening but still dark green, no egg-looking matter. Then 2 days ago I got home and she had runny poop in her cage with lots of egg-looking matter, and she was lethargic and puffed up again. Yesterday I started her back on Amox (she had been on it for 10 days, ending last weekend), and this morning I found her dead. I'm pretty confident she had EYP, but I couldn't bring myself to autopsy her to confirm. She was from my very first flock, and will be greatly missed :hitThank you all so much for your help and guidance with her, I certainly learned a lot from this one

So sorry that you lost your hen. Unfortunately most people who have raised chickens has dealt with this same thing before. When I lost my first hen, I couldn’t do the necropsy, but later when one would die, I tried to at least do a brief necropsy just to see if it was something I could see wrong. It was very enlightening, as I found cancer once, ascites several times, fatty liver disease, gizzard and crop impaction from who knows what, and others. It is never easy, especially if they are special pets, but can give some closure. But some, you just have to bury. Take care and I hope that you can share what you have learned here on the forums. Many times when one has a sick bird, they start posting help for others.

Thank you. I tried to document her symptoms and different treatments I tried on this thread as best I could. I admire everyone who does the necropsies and find them incredibly insightful. I hope to one day be able to do them on mine, just couldn't bring myself to with this girl. I do follow the emergency/diseases forum now, and I will try to offer help wherever I can in the future, knowing how helpful you all were to me. Thanks again.
