Hi, I have kept chickens for a number of years but today I found this....
My girls are all ex bats and about 3/4 years old.
Is this a chick without a shell? I have no cockerel.

Same here.

Cut it open lengthwise and take more pics @Hellychick21
I did cut it open but didn't take photos. It's gone in the bin. It was like a piece of chicken inside, a moist version of the outside with a small amount of water ?
I know you can't have a chicken without a cockerel but it definitely looked like the start of one or is that me trying convince myself 🤣🤣. If I get another I will save pictures.
I did look up 'lash egg' it was similar to some of the images. Wish I'd taken photos of insides now......

No. With parthenogenesis you get a fertile egg without a rooster. It's more common with turkeys than chickens but still rare. If they are incubated they can hatch.

Unless something went on that you are not telling us, that wasn't incubated. That's almost certainly a lash egg.

My understanding of parthenogenesis in birds is the eggs containing such embryos will look like a normal egg. That is the pattern followed by animals I know well that routinely employ parthenogenesis.
