Hey guys this may sound like a very silly question but I have a 1 year old goose and a 2 month old gander, her original mate was killed, well we have caught him a few times mounting her and now she is broody and laying on one of her eggs. For my question is it possible the eggs are fertile? I don't think they are but she has never been broody before and has been laying since she was 6 months. It's my first time with geese and most people I have talked with say she shouldn't even have been laying eggs yet but we did hatch two of her eggs that she had with her original mate so now I'm confused.

What breed is she?

I doubt the eggs are fertile of the gander is only two months old. Her behavior isn’t unusual if she’s a small breed, it’s surprising that she’s fertile at such a young age but not unheard of if she’s a small breed.
Medium breeds only begin laying after a year.
Large breeds often don’t lay until they’re closer to two years old.

She is an African goose

The one in front is her she seems large to me but my aunt has a mallard duck so that's my reference to small and may not be the only definition of small for geese.

She’s cute!

You can also tell what class she falls into by weight. 10 or under to 11 pounds is small, 12 to 15 pounds is medium. 15 to 22 pounds is large.
Regardless it may just be her genetics.
