Possum attack. Damaged neck.

UPDATE

I am totally amazed at the total recovery. I was sure this was a dead chicken. She is now back with the group and doing fine. The feathers have come in strong and she is laying again. It took quite a while for her to just be able to eat by herself. I had to hand feed her as she seemed to have a tough time moving her neck so that her head would touch the ground. I would put her outside and she would just stand there. After about 3 weeks she seemed to snap out of it. I think she lost her spot in the pecking order, but I am just glad she is alive.

Congrats... they are amazing.

my goodness, she looks so sweet. I dont know a lot about chickens. is it safe to put iodine or betadine before antibiotic ointment to make sure the wound is clean? can a chicken be bandaged? thats what i would do for my dogs if injured. my heart goes out to you.. please dont feel bad about falling asleep. you did not do it on purpose sweetie. May your girl make a full recovery!! hugs

Glad to hear it. Chickens can recover from some pretty amazing wounds. I don't know how they do it, but they do it well.

Good luck.

That's awesome your bird was able to recover from that. Usually animal bites are the worse possible injuries to birds; 1. its a puncture wound, 2. nasty bacteria being introduced. That's one really, really strong chicken you got there!!!
