Possum strike

Hi all.

Yesterday we had a possom get into our coop, and he ripped a good chunk of feathers off of one of our hens (but thankfully didn't kill her). Looks like she just has the dimples where the feathers once were- no blood.

Should I do anything with her to help get her back to normal? Should I worry about other chickens picking at her?

Possum is no longer a threat... hoping no others get in!

If there is any sign of blood, I would get some blue coat and put that on your chicken at the site. Blue coat is a disinfectent and a dark blue dye. You can get it at Tractor Supply or other farm stores. If no sign of blood, just watch her for signs of being too cold - part of her coat is missing.

Do you know how the opposum got in? Make sure to close up any holes or gaps greater than 1 inch wide.

Thank you. I will have to check her out and make sure she is doing okay- we have tractor supply down the street.

Not sure how it happened, but we do have an old barn/coop with not perfect doors. Stops the draft but if you push/pull it does give way. I am going to buy other slide locks to get rid of the flexibility. I didn't realize possums were easily able to get into things! The guy we removed was pretty hefty-- bigger than my jack russel mix.
