anybody try putting FAKE chickens in a trap and to make it re-usable you could always block the possum from getting it and please reply if you are going to try this idea how your going to kill them in your trap.

.22 cal rifle is how I kill them. A shot gun, hand gun, pellet rifle, baseball bat, or a shovel will also do a fine job. I'm sure if you really wanted you could get creative and figure some more ways to kill them.

Fake chicken won't work for bait.....possums don't eat plastic/rubber.
Raw or cooked chicken meat/bones will work as bait

Anything smelly and tasty will work as bait. Opossums eat just about everything try some dry dog food with some syrup drizzled over and a few marshmallows. This is coming from an experienced trapper of many years trust you'll have something in your trap within a few nights with such bait.

We caught two using Bologna. Sadly they killed several of our chickens before we caught them. Vicious little things!

My hounds once treed or bayed a possum hiding inside a swollen up dead cow. Opossums will indeed eat just about anything and everything.

the safest and most legal euthanizing method for in town is drowning. Take the whole trap and submerge in a 55 gallon drum or water trough or nearby stream. This is an approved method by the veterinarians assoc. As for bait stick with something sweet, you'll catch the possums, coons and skunks but usually avoid the neighbors cat, unless it's on your hit list also then go get a bucket of KFC have dinner and save the bones and skin, dyno mite critter bait.

Caught another one last night, the biggest one yet. Used apple slices, it worked. How many more can there be?? Thanks to these monsters we are down to only three chickens, 2 hens and good old Crooked Toe, our rooster.
