I need to put up fencing for my dog and soon to be farm, I want to use wooden post and beam fencing, but I have one speed bump, there is tons of ledge(rock) on my property, except for blasting through it is there any other type of fencing I could use or go about installing that would be secure enough to keep my dog and animals in?

Rocky soil is difficult to put posts in.

I have had to rent a jack hammer to dig holes for wooden posts before.

On my ranch, we use "T" posts, I just use a Rotohammer and a 1 and an eigth inch bit, mark the hole locations using a string stretched straight and spray paint a small spot every ten feet.
Drill and drop the post in.

If it's just for your dog, how about an underground electric fence? We have one and it works great for our 2 Huskies.

You could build a Jack fence which is totally above ground. Not a good choice though if you have horses and it is possible for a Jack fence to blow over in very high wind conditions if you don't add weights along the fence. Probably the best option is to use metal posts instead of wood posts. A metal post or pilot pole can be sledge hammered into anything other than solid bedrock. When it can't be hammered into the ground then you can make an above ground wire basket full of rocks to anchor the post.

we use electric fence with a solar charger. you could use buckets, concrete and a post then string the ribbon or wire. My doge learned VERY quickly that the wire was painful and now I dont even keep it on all the time. They keep away on their own.
