Post New Hatchlin Pix here!!!

Phoenix eggs!! Exciting! They are such beautiful birds, but what a bummer as far as condidtion of the eggs... I plan on ordering some show quality silver laced cochin eggs. I really want to actually breed something improving them generation to generation and I found a breeder with some gorgeous birds in their breeding pen. I'm just so worried about spending $40 and then ending up with no chicks because of rough handling during shipping. Tell me how your hatch goes. My broody ended up getting 5 to hatch, last one hatching yesterday. The other eggs disappeared but I can't imagine what happened since I was keeping her in a very large pet taxi for hatching.

Sorry bout the missin eggs....but sum hens r known to kick out & eat the ones that wont hatch.
Its that "Motherly Instinct" thang....hehe

I know hens sometimes kick out eggs, but where could have gone?? It's a pet taxi! Hopefully I'll get my answers when I clean it out tomorrow, I just put momma and her babies back in the coop. If you don't mind me asking, where does your daughter plan on showing them? Chickens are my passion and I would love to show them. I think I'm joining 4-H this year just for that reason. (By the way, I'm going to the 11th grade) Now I'm even more nervous to order eggs. I never have before for this reason but I don't know any other way to get quality birds.

She could have hid them in the back...r ate them!!
I feed my chickens egg shells...it helps grind their food & makes their newly eggs shells harder!

She will b in 4-H this year too...its the best way to get alot more knowledgable on chicken standards....plus meetin sum wonderful people that u will have alot in common!!
& u can check with APA website for links to shows in ur area!

Congrats on becomin a Junior in High School!!....just think...1 more year & u will b on ur way to a WONDERFUL FUTURE!!!

Dont b nervous....just ask ALOT of questions!!
How do they pack their eggs?
Do they guarantee fertility?
Whats their fertility rate?
When was the last time they hatch their own chicks?
Get Pix of their recent hatchlings!!

Do they mark the box with "LIVE EGGS", HANDLE WITH CARE, This End Up!! & FRAGILE?
Ask to speak with other customers that have recently received eggs from them!
Talk to the customers & ask them questions!

If u feel that they dont pack the way they should....ask them to pack it UR way!!
Most will ....but if not....then u dont need to order from them anyways!

And last but not least....sum sellers will meet u half way cuz the eggs r EXPENSIVE!

Stay Positive!!....everything will work out & certain things happens for a reason!

Hahaha, thanks, I'm actually starting college next week. I'm doing the PSEO where if you meet the requirements you can go straight to college after 10th grade and the government will pay in full for those first two years. I want to become a farm animal veterinarian. Keep me posted on your phoenix eggs! Hpefully you will get a great hatch!

And about shipping eggs, they actually answered every question in their description, except what they write on the box. Which do you recommend, do you think the postal men will treat the box better one way or the other? I might have to start a thread to see what other people say about shipping eggs.

Thats AWESUM!!....my son Adalito did that...took sum college courses at the same time!
Now he is in the Navy goin for his Nuclear Engineering Degree!
& bein a farm Vet is the best!....plus good pay!!...GOOD LUCK & BEST WISHES!!!

I'm goin to candle them tonite...its the 5th day of settlin in the bator...let ya know if I have any veins!!

As for shippin...theres a debate bout puttin "LIVE EGGS" on them...if they ship toward the weekend (when every1 wants to b off)...then I would recommend NOT puttin that on it....but if its the beginnin of the week (after every1 is refreshed) then YES!
But Always put "HANDLE WITH CARE" & "FRAGILE" on the box....they might think its glass & wont throw them around!

Another note is to get it "insured" from the post office....then if they r broken r scrambled...The Post Office will have to refund ur money!
Payin $3-5 bucks to insured $60 eggs is worth it to me!!!

But yes...start a new thread!!....sum of these threads r old on here & need to b UPDATED anyways!!!

So whats the result? Are they developing? My eggs should arrive Tuesday, I don't understand why she would ship them over Labor day weekend, that means they'll be sitting at the post office all day Sunday and Monday. I really hope all goes well. And you mentioned that you can insure your package? I assume that it's too late to do now, but for the future, how do you do that? Is it something the seller has to do, or can you walk in and say that you want this packaged insured? I wish I would have caught on to that earlier, it's a good idea because $40 is a lot to spend on eggs that could have been scrambled and broken by the post office.
