I'm getting so annoyed, and scared that my chicks are going to show up dead. I am pretty fed up with the (albany ny)post office. They are an hour away and have been there since 9am. I'm assuming they are just sitting on the counter. I keep checking for updates and-nothing. Every second that goes by I get more and more anxious. I think this is the last time I will ever mail order chicks.

Have you gone in to pick them up? Most offices don't call until morning rush is over

They are supposed to be shipped to my local post office.
Oh, okay. I read it wrobg, I thought you meant they were at the local office and you hadn't been called. Usually you can call and just ask if you can pick them up from there. If they missed a connecting truck, it can be several hours until they can get on the next one

It's fine. I can't even call the Albany post office because their phone number doesn't exist. Our local post office guy is hopeful and very reassuring. He has been informed and said he would call us. (Local post office closed at 12pm) it's an agonizing wait.

Huh. That's odd that they closed so early on a weekday. Ours is open 8-5 M-F.

Even when they close, usually you can still pick chicks up if they call you to announce they're here

I'm going through the same situation
...sort of...mine are supposed to be here next week and I've been trying to figure out where they are suppose to go so I can show up and pick them up...the BS I'm already having to work through is rubbish. Called the USPS and asked them. They tried to find the post office using my address, nothing showed up. They used JUST My zip and one post office showed up...so they gave me their number. Tried calling three or four times not a single ( figures 😒) answer with just a automated message asking for my security code pin....so I drove my happy butt down there and asked someone there..they said no they're going to be ending up at our distribution/processing center...so I went there AND they had three doors TWO of which had signs saying business personal only and employee personal only...Door A was for the general public, went there and it was just a crap dump of an empty room with a drop box..and a door with a sign on it saying that there is no longer a customer service/representative service offered "here" anymore and that they had a representative/customer agent section provided at the post office I was just at! They said thw distribution center is where they are going to be at and they'll call me. BUT I wanted to talk with someone to see their procedures and what they need me to do...not even a number or anything. This is my first time ordering chick's through the mail and it is horrendously stressful...depending on how well this process goes come this Tuesday/Wednesday...I'll mostly likely never do this again that's for sure 😒😩

Good luck with your babies! Hope you get ahold of them real soon!

Just so you can maybe laugh while you wait. My doctor sent me a home colorectal cancer kit in a box that was stolen by porch pirates.
I bet they were disappointed when they got home and opened the box. :lau

Definitely difficult!

A few points, in case any of them help:
a) the hatchery should put your phone number on the box. There's a good chance the Post Office will call you to pick up the chicks, and you can ask "What is your street address?" Then write it down, and go there.

b) If the tracking says "out for delivery," do not panic. The chicks are probably sitting at the Post Office, and the tracking is messed up. Either call, or just drive over to get them.

c) If you find the "out for delivery" tracking message and still do not know which location, look at the tracking history, becuase the previous update probably says "arrived at Bismark Post Office," or "arrived at Bismark Distribution Center," or whatever the name of the correct place is. Then you can call them or drive over to get the chicks.

Quick update: We just got a call from a well meaning lady at a different post office than what the tracker says, saying they've been there all day and asked if we wanted to pick them up. She said that if she hadn't called it would have taken 2 more days. Everyone who is mail ordering be alert! We are driving on our chicken rescue mission right now. Update again later. Hopefully everyone is well.
