wow what a cute pic! This is my buff orpington peachie when she was a month old sleeping with a few days old chickies =) I brought her into the house to see if she would "adpot" the two baby chicks because they wanted to cuddle really bad. I was shocked to see that she got along so well with them. The baby silkie(evee) and the easter egger(chico <-- is a girl, but i thought the name would be cute on her lol). You can see the baby silkie lol and the easter is underneath her somewhere. Buff orpingtons.. the best mommies
Peach is around 7-8 weeks old now

They pretty much will go broody when they want to. Leaving a few eggs in the nest can help some but really it's hormones. I have a few that go broody three times a year, and one that has never gone broody that is 2 years old. They are completely different bloodlines and it's the bloodline that matters. Some will, some won't. Most do though at least once a year. I did have one that didn't go broody till she was over a year old but most of mine of all lines have gone broody by a year. Just wait.I have two one year old Orpington hens. When will they go broody? Anyone know? How can I encourage them to brood? Thanks!
