Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

that is really wonderful Vicki! nice set up...husband has a friend stop by this last weekend ..hes a poultry man..he flipped over your buffs...said that was the best coloring he had ever seen..the babies are just amazing now that their adult feathers are coming in..he couldnt get enough of them..the guys were grilling out and even when they were eating, he positioned himself so he could watch the buff pen..

Would you please post some photos of the babies? I would love to see them. I love juveniles; specially the boys with those huge feet, out of proportion bodies and the awkward, whimsical way they run. Also, I get the biggest joy listening to the cockerels trying to crow sounding like a badly tuned French horn.. Ohh, Aveca, you must be having the time of your life with your gorgeous babies..

I took a few pics of the Lemon Cuckoo pair today, they are gaining weight & starting to fill out over the past 2 wks I've had them. They are very sweet birds & I just LOVE the color on the roo- he looks like a ball of sunshine!

I've so fallen in love with my orpies and they didn't even start out as mine. My hubby and daughter had this grand idea of raising chickens for eggs and meat...I just rolled my eyes and went back to gardening.

They started out with Diego and Dora, our leghorns. A couple of months later they came home from the flea market with six chicks. Three red sex-links and three buff orps. I would talk to them while I weeded, or share my lunch (they love pb&j crusts), and I always brought them the clover that grows around my strawberry patch.

Then Diego started jumping them and that was it. Both were afraid to gather the eggs, or egg, the others weren't laying yet...and the orps haven't laid yet. I am the only one Diego likes, so caring for our little flock is now my job. And I've fallen in love with them all.

These are my buffies and their flockmates.

Lovely garden! I especially like the shot with the purple coneflower and herbs. Chickens surprise people. They each have their own personalities. I'm glad you're enjoying them! But do watch Diego. Any boy that attacks people might have to find a new home eventually.
