Does anyone have any compliments/critisisms about my Buff orp cockerel I would like to breed with next year?

Joel, I'm sorry if this seems harsh, but quite honestly I would look for another Buff male, as I don't feel this one is breeder quality.
I say this because he just has too many faults to overcome. His head looks narrow ('crow headed'), his comb does not follow the head, his chest/body depth appears shallow from the photo, and his tail has off color (grey/black). I think that you would be more successful in the long run to just find a better quality Buff male that is much closer to the ideal/Standard of Perfection. If you start with the best quality you can find/afford to begin with, you greatly increase your odds of producing quality birds that are beautiful and productive. Especially if you are new to breeding. As I am in the U.S., I unfortunately cannot refer you to any reputable breeders. Perhaps someone else on the thread knows some breeders in the U.K. Going to a poultry show in your area might be a good way to obtain a nice quality male.

Quote: Quote: Thanks for the tips at least now I know what to look for in a good buff male. I think the next poultry sale I might be going to is in february. Also I am very new to breeding and only started breeding this year, I have hatched light sussexes this year but am hoping to hatch more breeds next year
