We got 4 Buffs in February and got our first "good" egg this morning. Johanna laid 2 paper shell eggs a couple days ago. The latest egg is perfect!

Johanna is the second from the right. The others are Ruth, Lydia and Eva (E-va)

Nice Family, both human and fowl!
Thanks!! We are getting excited as the chocolates were our first birds here and they are finally almost ready to lay!! You should hear my 7 year old exclaiming in excitement that our hens wattles and combs are turning red and "getting ready to breed." He jumps up and down thrilled to his toes-He's definitely mine!!

It's Bella's birthday today! Yous are probably wondering where the CLB comes into all of this as I have always said Bella's mother is the Orpington. Well Bella's egg was under her mother, but her mother got a chick and my broody CLB's eggs were all infertile, so I put a pipping Bella in with her. Once Bella had hatched, I moved them into a shed together and they accepted each others chicks and raised them together. Bella's CLB mother was taken by a Buzzard, so thats why you don't see anything of her now. But anyways, Bella hatched with me and now Bella is mothering her own chick! Will be taking her some mealworms up today! She has also nearly made a full recovery from her dog attack!

Can you spot her?

Took you FOREVER to believe me that Bella is a girl ! So glad she's doing well with her chick ! You can box her up anytime, and send her to me !

Not long now! I have a cut off this little so and so! I wanted to take a took at her egg and she got a hold of my skin and started yanking it around and it started to bleed!

Bella and her little man! He had ago at one of the big girl chicks today (chicks from the broody hen above) and he give one of them a hard peck and she ran away thinking it was another hen but then looked back to see him chasing her, so she turned around and got him!!

Well I wasn't expecting it to be so soon, but I found Bella's MOTHER with another chick today!! Didn't even know she had the chick until I heard her calling it out for food. I threw her a bit of corn infront of her nest like I always do and then I heard someone doing the food call. I looked at George thinking it was him because he was the only one with one bowl of food to himself. He then lifted his head up and it carried on, so I knew it wasn't him. Opened her shed and saw it was her. I didn't know that the chick was on it's way out from under her. It was in her front feathers and I started lifting the front of her up squishing it in the process (whoops) and then it dropped down. It must have had a pretty good hatch considering I couldn't even hear it pecking inside yesterday. Here they are having some chick crum. Going up tonight to move her into a secure shed just incase the rats get it through the night.
