Beautiful Buff Orps!

The bandettes are worth it, but get light ones with dark numbers. I thought I had photographed all 4 of my Hall Buff O. pullets who are 16 weeks old this morning. Didn't wear my glasses, so here's 2 of them.They look so much alike I kept grabbing the same two! These are very big girls who were not happy about being in a show coop!

We just put some Black Orpington, Self Blue Orpington and Lemon Cuckoo Orpington eggs in the hatching baskets. Hatching chicks is so much fun!

We just put some Black Orpington, Self Blue Orpington and Lemon Cuckoo Orpington eggs in the hatching baskets. Hatching chicks is so much fun!

I'm jealous. My gals are growing up so fast and I missing having chicks around.

We are so excited to have these Self Blue hatching. The hen is a 50% Cecil Moore Black Orp and the male is a F5 hincjc we acquired. Most of their eggs have been hatching Self Blue. We hatched a few Black. Glad we toe punched. We can not tell the difference between the pure Black and the Splits. Toe punching and hatching baskets is the only way to hatch with multiple varieties that hatch the same color...Black. We also have Blue Orps.

We acquired some Lemon Cuckoo eggs earlier and only hatched a nice marked pullet. Hoping for some more pullets and at least one nicely marked cockerel. The LC cockerel we acquired at Crossroads last year we lost to the heat.

The heat has slowed our egg production. When the eggs reach a week old we set if there is not enough to fill an order.

Playing around with my Buff Sport cock, I had taken him to a Black Orp hen to see what would come out.
Hopes would be something I could use back to Black or even White in the future.
Here is a 5 month ole cockerel. Pretty much everything that I get from my Dun Splash and my one White Orp cock looks like this too.



Here is the Buff Sport cock. Being in a breeding pen for the entire season has taken it's toll on his tail. But he is a very nice type and has a decent tail as seen in his son.

Oh My! I'm even more jealous now!! Been wanting self-blues but the ones I've seen over here for sale are not pretty like the ones hincjc has eventhough they say are hincjc line.

On a sader note, I'm going on a chick hunt again. After I get over the fact that my sister let her dog loose in the backyard with my chickens.

I dont think Vickie would miss that pullet bottom picture if I I accidently took her home....shes just so pretty ,well all of them are...these are my cousins dream birds..he wants good buffs so bad..he calls me all of the time..I told him just be patient, we are working on getting you some...hes SO excited.. and Vickie, you are a master at conditioning, not too often you see shine like that in buffs..must be those sunflower seeds..
