haha so true! I look forward to her pics!thedragonlady really tests us when she posts pictures. She knows we can't all have them, but all want them. Shame on her.![]()
Bill thank for posting the pictures. Second Cuckoo looks like he has some silver lineage.Harry here are pics of the Cuckoo boys you asked.
And a few other pics of the youts growing out
This fella has one wing I do not like. But he has ALOT of size which I would like to see in ALL of my Orps. After talking to two of our USA premier Orpington breeders, both basically say "do not breed birds with bad wings unless you are ready to cull hard".
So MAYBE a short hatch with this guy.
This is the younger boy. He has zero problems & will most likely be used with a couple of my best Whites, among other possible varieties
I hatched out 19 Buffs from just one pair. And have 11 cockerels to choose from. I will only keep 3 at most. And cull the rest.
A probable keeper
STORK being STORK
A nice young Black with a good head on her shoulders
HAROLD's son and only Blue that I will use. He carries the Brown/Red gene. And has a dusting of it showing in his wings. I have one more younger cockerel who looks like a real nice Lemon Blue
As much as I like with this boy, there is the wing thing again. With STORK and a few others looking good, I may only hatch out a dozen with this boy to see what may pop out. And hopefully not have these wings
Like this fella. An even younger boy who has nothing wrong so far. just needs more time to finish out
This Blue is from my Bamma (UK 75%er) Splash who I bred to Feran my #1 Black cock I have used for the past couple of seasons

Usually the girls tail feathers do grow in much sooner than the boys do. Yet another sign they're pulletsAlright then, the masters have spoken. I guess they're hens then
Their tail feathers are just so much bigger than everyone elses...none of the other babies have even started growing them yet.
After a week or so of hit and miss laying, she'll probably lay about 30-40 eggs, pretty much 1 every day, until she has laid about 35-40 eggs. She will then want to go broody. You can stop that, and she will resume laying another 35-40 eggs. Then let her sit. The US SOP Orps lay a little better because of not so much Cochin blood. Bella's eggs will get larger and larger, the longer she lays. Don't hatch those little first pullet eggs. The chicks will be very small.I was pleasently suprised today when i went to the hens, my run was frozen so no more mud for now!, i did have it so there was wood for them to walk on untill they got to the grass but they just completley ignored it, only the old cockerel used it. When Bella comes into lay how many eggs should i expect off her in her first year?, like how many weekly

I bet she'll be a good Mum too.
