You assume everything is a fight..Im trying to learn here..In order to learn I have to ask solid questions..I hope for deccent answers ..this is a bad pattern Don.

I see some really bad birds thou.. Just an observation, and its not just here.My freind said they are in midwest , west , everywhere..just more like a wyandotte or rock..spattered inbetween are a few really good ones.....

If you stand back, be objective, you see the fabulous farthing birds, then you see birds, and yes everywhere winning shows with wings pointed straight down, poor color, crow heads, tails yanked out befor a show because of black in tail, necks that look like a peice of spagetti..roach backs, I know that the perfect bird hasnt been hatched but my goodness. ..they just dont have anything about them that I like...I remember the big buffs when I was a kid..I just dont see that..... ..that wing that points straight down gives me stress..and they win shows....

.Im thinking you can explain to me how it kind of fell into a disrepair like that..Im not insulting it , just trying to learn.....maybe there is just real bad photography going on there..and it may be just that simple....I dont know....was it greed on a few breeders part? held them too close and now needing help? I cant figure that part out... Was it a series of wars? industrialized workers leaving the farms..? I always feel like Im looking at a puzzel trying to figure out what the picture is by a few peices...Is it insecurity on some peoples part? Because from somone standing on the outside that is what it looks like..lot of people are afraid of stepping outside thier comfort zone.. I see a lot of insecurity ....I got the memos about stiff tail feathers ect..but the wing pointed down kind of spoils that splendid tail...Im hoping you help me understand because It is confusing..what you hear does not match up to what you see,

Then Renie posts her Midas..BOOM...perks you right up..beautiful creature I must say...I might need better glasses if somone tells me that is a bad bird because Im not seeing it..that is where the confusion comes in for me.....Here is what happens..I see a very plain looking bird, rather cut away chest, wing pointed straight down. not a great color, kind of crow headed, and everyone bragging on it because it just won a big show with 57 thousand birds..I cant help but think , really?..like I said, might be a bad pic, that can happen..then I see that english bird..and everybody booing it..it looks like a very big insecurity..as if they are saying I dont have that, therefor no one should..instead of saying that might improve the undercolor of my birds and width..It just seems strange to me.. I see people fighting over things that are not even a fight..Maybe its vendeta or something..A good discussion not fighting is whats needed..

When I think Buff orpington I think of these ...They look like what I imagine a buff orpington is somewhat supposed to look..maybe a little to far to the other side, and they have thier share of things too like poofy tail ect..but over all nice..I look at him and think, nice dinner party of 6...We could one of ours as the toothpick...I will always do what I like also, and choose what appeals to me..they dont have to like it..It wont stop me from anything..

Lynn I don't know where you found this video but that is one fine looking buff Orp, and the girls too. That's what I am talking about. I would go to a show just to gawk at birds that purty

I know Julie, They are the apex of wonderful buffs to me..I was craving to see some nice birds so went searching on YOUTUBE.

.you get to tour other countrys birds so its really nice...toured germanys birds ..netherlands switzerland, britian australia, even india LOL!.I got one from of all places russia...top buff breeder there,, who knew they had an interest in things like that...one of the doctors at the hospital is translating it for us..I learned more from her translation of what that top breeder was saying than I thought was possible..no one ever explains things to me..this guy explained everything....he took the bird apart peice by peice..and he was a buff breeder there , ...he was talking about the length of the wattle should not be that much longer than the height of the comb..the buff color goes all the way to the root..lifted the feathers showed undercolor as correct ect...waiting on the rest of the translation...I was like a kid in the candy store with that film..learned so much ........wish we had films like that made here..would be helpful.

Just for the record I saw some european birds that had thier own brand of funk too not just US birds..didnt care for those..but the ones that were good were amazing..., I think people like farthings should make a quality film of thier best....explain things to people..breeding stock, why they are not using this or that bird because thou they look nice..this is wrong.so somone who wants to learn doesnt have to turn to foreign films to get an explanation...They could write an award winning book too Im sure..Vickie could too..and you with those amazing blues and blacks..

I have to agree with every point you made, Aveca. Often birds are praised and I can't see why. Then others are ignored and have a better build, etc. Can be mystifying. Of course no one posts their birds here to have them torn apart, with a few exceptions (Like when they ask for criticism). And I love seeing the hatchery Orps right along with the "breeder" quality or whatever term you care to use.

Lynn how did you get it interpreted. I would love to know what he is saying. Nice head peice on the buff boy

We. Have a Russian doctor at work..she was translating it for me..but hospital Is so busy neither of us have had a chance to finish it..she said the guy had pretty good sence of humor..was explaining what would be ideal color wise he didn't want wattle to be much longer than comb, color in fluff, this problem or that..when she gets a chance she's going to finish the story for us..I got a lot out of it..she was laughing a couple times but I couldn't understand a word..

That big buff in the film is easy on the eyes For me..they are meat bred birds..those have some meaty bones..To me that is the standard of perfection

This pullet is 2 months old, and her tail is much different than any of my other birds. I have a Buff Orpington hen but her tail is like my RIR hens tails, not rounded like this pullet. Is this normal or a fault? She was from a feed store and is just a pet, I'm curious though.
