Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

This old book has some tips on bird anatomy and photos that might prove useful. It's mainly an old book explaining how to select for breeding egg layers but goes into some detail into anatomy that you might like, and there are pictures of parts of the skeleton but anyway, give it a look: http://archive.org/details/callofhenorscien02hoga

The link is to a free online book but you can download it in many formats.
I immediately opened the, "The call of the hen; or the science of selecting & breeding poultry for egg production" on PDF format, and what a nice book it is! First, I will search and find out if it is in print; if not, will make a copy of it. The details of anatomy is great! Thank you! Thank you!

My baby Orps., are 6 wks. old today, and am surprised to see how fast they are growing; I used to think the puppies grew up fast. As per your suggestions, I have been checking their bodies, specially the breast bone; which differs a bit with each one. Well, the girls were less than happy, and most boys' attitudes were indifferent. For some reason, the girls are quite shy and the boys are the opposite, or I should say: what we believe to be. We don't push ourselves on the girls, so to not cause more bashfulness.

They weigh, 2 1/2 pounds, to 17 oz. where the latter being a girl.

When we brought them home day after their birth, some of the black, and the blue babies had light coloring on top of their heads, which seemed unusual to my novice eye. I marked those babies with food coloring to keep an eye on. Two of the blacks developed into the cuckoo pattern, and am assuming are boys. All the babies with white marks, almost like a light gray smear on their heads, are what I believe to be boys. Is there any chance that, some babies with pink, big comb & wattles might be girls?
They all have the same father, Mr. T. which I am told is split to lavender.
