Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Yes, the black should not have that color eye. They should be dark. The blues do have really uneven coloring but I know from experience that with age it evens out. at least mine did (the one in my avatar is pretty young still. Today she is more evenly colored than in that picture). It could be due to the constant molting that growing birds go through? Give them more time. The only really obvious flaw I see is that light eye. Feed them well and give them time.

Thank you. Will the feather coloring possible change after they molt? None of them have been through their fist molt yet. Will the eye color of the black be a dominant or recessive gene? Sorry for all the questions just trying to get a grasp on it. btw the one in your avatar is beautiful.

I have no idea whether that is a dominant or not gene. I know very little about genetics in general though. I know a bit about the blue coloring and that's about it. Yes the feather color does tend to change a little, not a lot, through each molt. And they are molting one or two here and there almost constantly while still growing. The probably won't have a true molt until this fall. Give them time. They are not the best I have ever seen, just not maybe as bad as you were thinking. Sometimes it's not easy to judge before they are grown, and yours aren't.

Quote: Feather color does change after molt. Sometimes not noticeable. I like your birds..they look like they have a nice front on them. I would like to see some side views, rear views, and from up above to see how they look on width from shoulder to hip. Close up of heads, to see a bit more on eye and comb. They do not look like hatchery stock to me. If they are hatchery stock you are doing a fantastic job. They look healthy and happy. How much do they weigh?
For eye color corrections or domanant/recessive question..it is better if you read this.To me it is all a different language and my brain freezes when I read it.

Thank you. The next pretty warm day we have I will try to get more pics of them. I do not know their weights but will check it. The 2 lightest blue ones are just too small among other things imo. I am hoping by crossing the inferior hens with a much better rooster I will produce decent offspring to work with.

I scanned the link on genetics and mostly concentrated on the fruit fly eye color. I am guessing I will be able to start by crossings to see what eye color I get from dark brown + red in the black pullet. brown blocks red if carrying identical genes: 2 red x 2 brown=brown but crossing those offspring will be different (which if I am not mistaken is where I am starting from with my crossing).

I would like to introduce my baby Orpingtons:
Even though we had chickens for over 15 yrs. this is my very first experience with baby chicks, and am enjoying each and every moment of it. I wanted to share my babies photos with you. They were bred, and hatched by Deanne- Just Strutting Farms. Waiting for the babies to be born was a very long 21 days..After they mature, I am looking forward to adding Jubilee, Crele, and Buff, Orpingtons into my small menagerie.
The sire of my babies' is; Mr. T, who is a very handsome, sweet, huge black rooster from Marc Sarce. Please note that; if my babies' quality is not up to par, my intentions of posting the photos was not to cause insult or upset. Deann has the photos and info as to their lineage in her website: juststruttingfarms.com. When they grow up, they will be my models for some of my paintings.
I wish everyone a wonderful evening!

One day old.

2 days old.

7 days old. These babies are 9 days younger than the first group posted above.

7 & 16 day old. I knew chicks grew up fast; but, had no idea it would be this quick..

Same babies standing next to each other. They are 9 days apart.

20 days old. Such a pleasant surprise to have 2 of the babies to develop stripes and pocodots. I believe there are correct terms of the markings, but did not want to make a mistake and embarrass myself by misquoting. What would you call their markings?

20 d. old.

I hope I did not post too many photos. I am just over the moon about having them.... : )
I would love to hear what you think of my babies.
