Once it stops snowing I am going to decide weather or not to split Bella and her mother up from the rest of the flock, they have both got in to egg eating, they eat their own eggs after laying and go into the shed and eat the other hens. I don't know how they manage to put their beaks through them so quickly. I am hoping its down to the fact they are inside because of the snow and are just bored so I am going to wait until the weather is better before I decide.

Dragonlady, could you tell me one more time, how to mix the goat wormer to worm birds. I just got a bottle.

1 TEASPOON per gallon of water for 3 days. Shake bottle well, and mix fresh every day.

John..It has been the endless winter this year..We still have snow on the ground too..Its usually lot warmer and the crocus are blooming by now..we still have snow and ice..but slowly its warming up...thank goodness!! tired of it.

Nothing funnier than Orp cockerels at that age. They sound like tin horns as you said, but I love to watch them gallumphing about with their over size feet. Wait until 4 mos...it just gets to be more fun watching them grow up.

Dragon Lady, you are correct, they have huge fat feet, and when standing up, stepping on their own toes-too cute. I am afraid to transfer them into the garage due to fear of chilling them. Temperature warmed up a bit; but, at night, goes down to low 40 degrees.
4 of the boys weigh 3, 3-3/4 pounds at the age of 8 wks. old, and two of the girls are 3 pounds. Rest are around 2-1/2. Are these good weight at their age? When is a good time to change their food from the chick starter to the next one? Last Sunday they were 8 wks. old.
My biggest hobby became sitting by their cage and watching them. It is such a joy..

Hello Deek, well, actually neither of us did; and what a surprise it was...Every time he crows, he gets extra treats. Perhaps we should not! I think, already he is making a connection between his crows and
the goodies which follows..but then again, it is so hard not to.

Ohh, Aveca, how nice you have crocus growing. In our area it is very difficult to grow crocus, dogwood, peony and the like. In order to grow them, one needs to buy ice for about two months from the ice service to put around the trunk. Conveniently they bring it to the purchasers' house daily. I tried it for couple of years which worked wonderfully, but, had to stop it, because the price became too high when the CA. economy took a terrible dive to south.
I am sorry that you still have the cold & snow.

Really starting to like these 2 Akers Buff cockerels. Their combs seem to be impervious to the cold weather. Even though a comb is only worth a few points in a show. A lousy comb will keep what is otherwise a great bird home from a show, and when shown off of Champions row.



I am looking forward to crossing these cockerels onto a couple of my line's pullets. I will get the nice tail and top line angle from my line and will be hoping to get these bulletproof combs, nice thick bones and broad heads..

Keep those babies on Medicated chick starter, with some soaked rolled oats, and bird seed, until they are 4 mos. old. No losses that way .Start giving them lots of chopped up dark greens too. They should not need heat at 8 weeks unless the temps plummet. Put them in the garage with a light.

That's a very good weight. Have you wormed them ? Try Safeguard Liquid Goat Wormer 10%. I teaspoon to 1 gallon of water for 3 days.Shake med. well, and make fresh every day for 3 days.
