I think Orps make the best moms. She is way better at brooding chicks than I am. Very impressed with how the big buy watches over his off spring. He even finds goodies for them. I could watch them all day. The chicks are 2 weeks old and the hen is letting them wander a little further and she even let them leave the cover of the bushes and trees for a bit of exploring.

That makes my heart smile! My Blue Rooster is the same way, he will let everyone know where the goodies are then watch over them. The kids give them worms and he won't eat them, he let's the ladies go first, true gentlemen!

Here's Uno the only surviving cockerel from the predator attack. He is a little younger than your cuckoo; he is closing in on 9 months old. His comb & tail are not good but like you said I like a lot of things about him. I don't know why but I do. I think part of it is his structure & that you can see a good portion of his hock.

Thank you. I am going to put him in with the 1 hen & 1 pullet I kept. It will probably be a month or so since the hen just hatched 3 chicks.

You need a buff male to continue the saga of Bella's family ! Trust me on this. If one of those 2 chicks with Bella's mom is a male; find him a home, and get a Buff Orp cockerel !

I know! I really want to breed my own BO's but will have to wait and see. You never know I might get luck and the chicks are both girls but since when do I get luck?!

Here's a pic of my babies, the two biggest a little over 5 weeks old.

The blue tub on the left is 9 inches tall. The cockerel standing next to it is built like a brick house. You can't tell in this picture but his head is super wide.
