It was absolutly freezing this morning, 33 degrees..my tester showed up in parka LOL!..I put a couple of the cages out in the sun just because it was so cold , and the wind was so biting..especially in the shade...Honest to God, it goes from 100 degrees back to 30 degrees every week it seems..strange..I had to make a cage for these..like a double cage..I didnt get a chance to finish the door jam and latches due to had a deadline working online..we got through it thou..
Ben the australian orpington (australorp) waiting his turn , well, I should say just waiting , inspector hadnt shown up yet. Ben isnt far off from a molt.. For some reason, Ben and I get along really well this year, maybe he has just mellowed out..we used to get into some pretty big tangles..now he just goes along with whatever I need to do..
The babies have it easy, just run around and be observed..and thier pen and sleeping quarters get inspected..

Those are some really nice birds, Aveca! The white babies are so pretty.. I love the cages you make for your birds; products of love......I used to make cages for my parrots, and made trays for the bottom out of printing press-plates. The plates are quite large, thick aluminum; but, still somewhat easy to bend to make the edges so to create a tray for the bedding. Also, I made couple of trays out of thick plexi-glass which did not work out too well. They were too heavy, as well as prone to cracking & braking.
Lovely birds everyone.. Bill that white roo is really somethingMaybe he will wided with age.... Just like me.. lol
Very nice looking cockerel! Here's Uno the only surviving cockerel from the predator attack. He is a little younger than your cuckoo; he is closing in on 9 months old. His comb & tail are not good but like you said I like a lot of things about him. I don't know why but I do. I think part of it is his structure & that you can see a good portion of his hock.

No different than any other egg. You have to find your grove for your own personal environment. If you have a high humidity climate or low humidity climate you need to find what will work for the incubator you are using. The type of incubator is also a large factor. If you gather your own eggs or use shipped eggs is important. Purchasing a good hygrometer and thermometer is the best investment you can make. I have not found any incubators that have them on the machines that are accurate. Using a fan or a turner makes a difference too. If you want to pm I can give you more information if you need it, or at least point you in the right direction on where to read about your climate, humidity, and what incubator you are using. Is there a secret to hatching orp eggs in an incubator? I have a turner, and only a few of my eggs hatch and that's following the directionsWhat's your guys turnout percentage wise?![]()
priceless!I think Orps make the best moms. She is way better at brooding chicks than I am. Very impressed with how the big buy watches over his off spring. He even finds goodies for them. I could watch them all day. The chicks are 2 weeks old and the hen is letting them wander a little further and she even let them leave the cover of the bushes and trees for a bit of exploring.

Quote: Do you have to cage all of your birds for inspection? Wow..I am so glad I do not. It would take all day and a fortune in cages...that is a ton of work. Great job.
