He is a deserving bird Paula. Doc is like a dog, and just wants to hang out. He follows me in the brooder room to clean cages, and then out to get water. Just a neat bird Julie. You have me hooked!!

I think I'm falling in love with Orps.
I have a few questions
1. How is their laying?
2. Broodiness?
3. Compatibility with other chickens?
4. Temperament?
5. Winter Hardiness?

BANTIMANIA Orps are some of the nicest temperment birds I own. Weeks under 10 degrees consecutively. The only thing I am setting up for is to protect the Roo's combs. The girl are fine. Lay thru out the winter, with times out for molting. I do not use lites. So, I could get more eggs IF I cared.
Julie that house is incredible. Can I move it over to here? lolol Very cool. I bet those dogs were darn interested in chickens. I have mine trained well enough while I am AROUND to not hurt a bird. I do not trust them when I am not around. Another positive about this type of heating, you do not need vent, air ducts and all the stuff that goes with a forced air furnace. The trade down is we use those portable AC units, along with the worlds largest window AC, 25,000 BTU's ( just jokin, it is the biggest window AC I ever seen ), about 10 to 20 days during the summer. We are lucky, this year has been the coldest summer on record for these parts. So, these AC units, that roll around on wheels just collected dust, feathers, and crud that comes with the teritory of the critters we let float around the house. lolol

Bantima you can count on Orps to have a real broody late spring and summer. Good mothers. I think they like cooler weather.
Mine are great layers unless they are in a molt.

Julie, those are great pics. Nice to see Imogene, and put a face with a name. Wish I could've gotten to meet up with both of you at the show. How lucky that you had relatives to stay with along the way. Your sister's house is just beautiful. How long was the drive? We had about a 16 hour drive one way, so we stayed at a hotel right outside of Memphis on the way there and also on the way back. We also stopped by the Loretta Lynn Dude Ranch on the way up there. That was very cool. It is just acres and acres of beautiful land, and we definitely needed the walk. It was really enjoyable. We don't have all of those rolling hills here- it's just flat land, so that was a nice change.

Paula it was about 6 1/2 hrs to my sis's house in Tn which was right track for heading to Ohio and the next day we drove about 8 hrs. I was so thankful for a nice place to stop and then get a visit in to. She was having a online Auction to get rid of so many things in the house and she gavie me and Imogene a bunch of antique linens and We looked liked the Beverly Hillbillies coming home with all the Antique canning jars stuffed in every hole available. She gave me a antique oil painting of Chickens too and I haven't done a thing yet but stick everything in a closet till I can get better and go through it.

The place has a nice apple and pear orchard and fish pond. A tea house to the side and a orangery in the back. We had a good walk around when we got there and then the tour of the house took us a while as we went up and down staircases. Quite a fun adventure. I am so glad I waited to have this surgery till after I got back.

Oh and let me say having Imogene as a traveling companion was so much fun. It made time go by so fast.

I love my orps too! Definately the sweetest and most calm outa my bunch. The orp hen just stands there and waits for me to pick her up. If she isnt in my lap on her own accord already. But she never walks away from anyone trying to pick her up. I definately want more orps. My marans are also very sweet but not quite the same as my orpingtons.

Tubby is 8 months old and I hope I am not disaapointed with him when he finally gets all his tail feathers and finishes filling out. I really have liked him from the start

This young cockerel is about 6 months old and his pin feathers are still in bloom. I have to keep him a while longer and see how he turns out. he has great lacing so far.

Those are some awesome blues, Julie. And, Tank surely is a tank-so is Tubby, for that matter. The first two do look alot alike. Is that Tank in the second pic?
