I have to agree with you on the English type. If I only breed them for myself, I can't explain the pleasure I get from just looking at them. I don't get that from looking at Cochins. Not saying Cochins are not wonderful Chickens, I am just talking about my own personal preference. I like the depth, width and size much more than the American Standard. I do have a friend in Fl that had the best blacks I have personally ever seen, not saying someone else doesn't have some, I just haven't seen them yet, but my friends were out of Cecil Moore lines. The Cock bird weighed 16 lbs and the hens 14. I just had to stare when I saw them at a show in Lake City Fl. He called the girls the Butt Sisters cause they were so broad in the back end. Imogene has a few hens I gave her that I got as chicks last year from the West Coast that are Cecil Moore lines and they are huge at just a year. I believe Imogene is going to show them in Jan and Feb if they are looking good feather condition wise at that point.

Sandy your chicks are looking good. I bet they turn out real well. Sorry you didn't win the Lemon Cuckoo's I thought they were really pretty. Hopefully they will be more plentiful in the near future along with some other colors. It gets me excited to think about it.
If anyone gets any chocolate they need to share with me.

Thanks for the compliments Tazcat and HenTymes.

Paula...that picture of Clementine is one of my favorites, too. SHe looks like a big basketball with a beak.

Julie...I'm with you 100% on the Cochin thing. I definitely don't see a "cochin" when I look at the English type orps at all. I sure would like to see those blacks you are talking about.

I agree. The whole reason I got Orps to begin with was a quest to replicate some of the most gorgeous birds I've seen on the english breeder sites
BTW, those are beautiful. I love the feathered "basketball" look!!!

There are folks who only like the current UK style of Orpington. There are those who only like the current APA style of Orpington. And I think you ALL have it wrong. lolololol
I have been told by a 40 plus year APA judge to not breed for a look in a pic. BUT, I will breed to a look on a print from 1890's. lolol My motto is "IF they don't lilke it, I LIKE IT!!!!"

Somewhere along the line THEY did not like these beautiful original style Orpingtons.

I LIKE IT!!!!!
