Bburn - try Mr Roy Autrey he has " Autrey's Friendship Farm". He'll have the BR an BOs. The birds shown on the top of the previous page were a pair of breeders I got from him in the spring. The two youngsters under that are ones I hatched from them. If I had some I was ready to get rid of I'd sell you some but mine are still just about 4 mnths old. They are from excellent stock. His BRs are gorgeous too.

Thanks!! I am looking at his webpage now.

Have been looking for coop ideas. That way I can get two girls for the BO and two girls for the BR and keep my precious cochin (in the one picture with the BO) with the original girls. Looking at duplex coops that only make sense to me right now....lol. Have a stepson hanging out with me helping around the place. I announced to him tonight that I was building another coop....he said you mean I am building another one? I always help I don't know what he is talking about!

My husband built houses for 30 years. There are all kinds of materials everywhere up here. The more I use and recycle the happier he is. Have all kinds of things spied to use. Old windows. Tin roofing from the barn that fell down. Heck....there are even shower doors out in the metal building that I think I can use someplace! Maybe the people door! That would be pretty secure.

Am going to contact Mr. Autrey and tell him what I am looking for and see if he has anything. I want to keep in the same age range of the ones I have already. 22-23 weeks.

Gosh....aren't they fun? (except when they fight....not liking that....thank goodness I built a tractor so I would have a place to put a brused and battered BR roo!!

I have mine in a tractor for full time. I don't a have a pic of my big one but here is a pic of the smaller one I built by myself while hubby was out of town working. I originally built it for my banty SF but they have a new coop (another girl project) so this is now a grow out pen. Just make sure you provide enough room. 10 sq per bird outside 4 per for inside mine is a little more than that per each since they are extra large chickens. I had built mine and moved them around for a while but have now put them in one spot and Ammon the process of building a fence around them with tractor actually serving as part of one of the sides. This way each "flock", in my case BOs, BSF or BBSO can each have more outside time. They'll just take turns a few hours a day having the big yard, but still have a place to get down out of the coop during the day. I leave the inner door open so the hens can still go up during the day and lay.

Buffbeauty....I love your coop! I want a duplex for sure and this time I want it up on stilts also. My other one is built out of corragated metal from the barn that fell down!

I will divide the run also as well as the coop. Got my head full of plans....now to figure out where I am going to plant the coop. We were really lucky where we put the other one. The cross breeze is wonderful in it. Now looking at making shutters for the window with cooler weather moving in.

Monday morning first thing my DSS and I are opening the metal building full of stuff and emptying it out....at the same time I will be looking for things to use in the coop. There is even an old cabinent out there that I might use for nesting boxes. I am going to use as much stuff as I can that is already out here.

We even have these metal things that my DSS said were for concrete and not for edging flower beds like I have been using them. I am going to make trenches around the run and put them in it.....it would be hard for something to dig into our coops because of the rocks but 5" ought to protect them enough. They are all ten feet long....

Thanks for the hint on finding hens....am on a mission for the new coop first but did send an email....just in case they have something I need right now. Also have a lead on a little tykes playhouse that I can put in the run I have and fence it off to separate it from the others. It would be good temp housing for now and a good little broody house for later.

bburn, I think Roy's line would be a good one to use with your boy. With Buffs the color is the tough part. And I think your Buff has good color. Just ask for a late cull pullet. The ones the better breeders hold the longest are usually their best to offer. Your looking at the right time of season.


Buffbeauty, I like your tractor. I have to add a nest box to mine for the fall into winter. I will have mine lower to the ground. Heavy birds like Orps sometimes can hurt their kiel bone jumping off a too high a perch.

Bill- Thanks!! The orp coop is about the same height but just like in this one here is a ladder that comes down from the door of the coop and extends almost to the end of the open end of the coop, so no jumping necessary!! And they just walk up and down it each time to go in and out. Roo likes it because he can get on the ladder and look round and check out the happenings of the yard. Here you can see them sitting on it

Just wanted to ask a question as I am very new to Orpingtons, and I noticed today that three of the 4 have white feathers in their wings?

I will try to take a picture to post later on, but just wondering if that is something that is common or not?
